Is S/East Not Part Of The South? Ayo Adebanjo Queries As He Shares Details Of Meeting With Peter Obi
Less than 24 hours after the much talked about meeting between the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and Leaders of Afenifere and Middle belt leaders on Tuesday evening, details of the meeting have emerged.
Pa Ayo Adebanjo had before now declared his support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party, the move which has continued to trigger question in the public especially among the Yoruba nation who expected the octogenarian to have declared his support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, candidate of the APC who is a Yoruba man.
According to Adebanjo, his decision to support Peter Obi was based on equity, justice and fairness.
On Tuesday, Peter Obi led a delegation from his party to the leader of both the Afenifere and Middle belt forum with a view to seeking their supports ahead of 2023 general election. The meeting was held at Adebanjo residence.
Revealing what transpired at the meeting on a phone conversation with Channels TV, Pa Adebanjo disclosed that Restructuring of the country was the major issue that dominated the front burner of discussion at the meeting.
According to him, constitutional review, community policing, devolution of power and several others are what made up of restructuring.
Speaking about Southern Presidency, the elderstatesman noted that the southern region is consist of South West, South South and South East. He claimed that the South East zone has been denied Presidency since 1999.
“How can you say rotation in the North and South, and when it comes to the South, it would be South-West and South-South every time? Is the South-East not part of the South? What is the moral we are talking about?
“Is it not the South-West that has served Obasanjo for eight years, Osinbajo for another eight years as Vice President? South-South has served its own. Is the South-East not part of the South? That is the question we should answer.”
Adebanjo however described the Labour party candidate as partner in progress and someone who is fighting for the common man.
