NO STATE CAN ANNEX OUR ASSETS – Rivers State

Rivers State Government has assured the people of the state that it would not allow any part of its land, resources and assets to be annexed by any other State.

The government stated this when the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, led a team of members of the Rivers State Boundary Commission on a fact finding mission to Umuru-Ofeh, in Omuma Local Government Area of the State.

Represented by the Surveyor-General of the State, Surveyor Noel Elenwo, she says “assurances have been given and a clear picture has been painted to the people of Umuru-Ofeh that this is a work in progress, this visit here today is the fallout of the last meeting we held in my office, I urge you to maintain the peace and that is the message we brought here today”.

The Deputy Governor while suing for a peaceful resolution of boundary disputes among communities, noted that as responsive Government that listens to yearnings of its people, remains committed to the protection of lives and property of Rivers people which according to her, the people of Umuru-Ofeh in Omuma Local Government Area would continue to enjoy.

She however, commended the community for their peaceful disposition over the years while assuring them of a peaceful and swift resolution to the issues.

Responding, the Chairman of Omuma Local Government Area, Hon. Christian Chisom Nwaiwu, commended the Deputy Governor for her swift response in addressing the complaint brought by the community, while urging the people of the community to go about their lawful activities without intimidation.
