You Are Fond Of Interrupting People When On Your Show- ASUU President Tackles Dr. Abati On Air

The lingering crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal government appears to be taking a dimension where everybody will have to take his slice from the blame.

After over 170 days of academic inactivity by both the lecturers and the students, there seems to be no headway as the Union is currently proposing an indefinite strike with a view to teaching the government some lessons that education is not an option but a priority for any nation planning to develop.

Speaking during the Thursday edition of Arise TV Morning Show, the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke revealed that the federal government is not ready for activities to resume in the public university.

Osodeke took his time to take his hosts down the memory lane on the agreement between ASUU and the government and how the government has reneged on its own part of the deal signed with the Union in 1999.

Controversy however errupted when Arise News programme anchor, Reuben Abati asked the Union president if they are actually fighting a just course with the way they are going. He reminded him of some universities that have pulled out of the strike and others that are planning to take the same route.

Osodeke responded that universities that have pulled out are irrelevant to the fight and they should not be taken serious.

However, Abati decided to cut in and asked him if he is actually saying those Universities are quacks. Abati question triggered an argument between the university don and the anchor on the live show.

Professor Osodeke had to caution Abati to hold his peace and allow him speak to Nigeria. He accused Abati of trying to cut short his guests whenever they are trying to speak the truth to Nigerians. He told him if he doesn’t want him to express himself and tell Nigerians the truth on his programme, then he should not bother inviting him again.

The university don explained that the universities who refused to go on strike are those who have problems with ASUU. For instance, he said Kwara state university is not a member of ASUU.

Osun state university is on suspension while Lagos State University is having a court case with ASUU over the sack of lecturers in the school.

He said those universities have no relevance in their fight with the federal government.

He stated this on Arise TV Morning Show.
