What Tinubu Said After Wike Tabled The Conditions For Supporting His Presidential Ambition At The London Meeting
More facts have emerged on the controversial meeting that was held in London between the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike had allegedly met with Tinubu in London some days ago before he had another meeting with Former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the UK.
The meeting between Wike and Tinubu was said to have narrowed down to the possibility of the Rivers State Governor working for Tinubu in the next presidential election.
According to sources who disclosed the details of the meeting to Thisday Newspaper, Wike was said to have tabled some conditions precedent to his support for the presidential ambition of Tinubu.
Part of the conditions is that Tinubu should not influence the governorship election of Rivers, Benue, Abia and Oyo States if he wins the presidential election in 2023.
According to Wike, his governorship candidate and that of the three other states whose governors are in alliance with him should not be meddled with by Tinubu after winning the presidential election that will come first ahead of others.
He also conditioned Tinubu that all his three senatorial candidates, 8 House of Representatives members and 32 lawmakers in Rivers state should be allowed to win their elections.
If Tinubu could give in to all these conditions, Wike promised to throw his weight behind him in the 2023 elections.
However, the source confirmed to Thisday Newspaper that Tinubu told Wike he could accept that of Rivers but that of Abia, Oyo and Benue States is beyond his power.
The response was said to have left Wike and his men disappointed at the outcome of the meeting and this prompted another meeting with Atiku Abubakar who arrived at the United Kingdom to meet Wike the same day.
Governors in alliance with governor Wike include Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
While Makinde is seeking re-election for his second term, Ikpeazu and Ortom are hoping to win their senatorial elections and also install their anointed candidates as governors in their respective states.
