Police Arrests 22-Year-Old Man For Stealing 15-Year-Old Child In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man, identified as Ayomide Fawehinmi, who was rescued from a mob action over an allegation of stealing an underaged child in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the suspect was rescued and thereafter arrested following a distress call received from members of the community.

In a press statement the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and took him to an unknown destination before he was caught by a neighbour who raised the alarm.

Reports say that Fawehinmi had earlier dispossessed the boy of an Itel android phone to cut off communication with his mother.

The statement said, “The boy has been rescued unhurt and the phone has been recovered, investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability.  The suspect would be arraigned contingent on the outcome of the investigation.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, commended residents of the state for always promptly alerting the authorities of suspicious persons or happenings and sternly warned members of the public to desist from jungle justice as it was a crime in itself.
