Video: It Will Be Absurd If That Happens- Okowa Reacts To Shettima’s Plan To Take Charge Of Security If Elected 

Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa who is the vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party has reacted to the statement made by the former governor of Borno state and APC vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima.

Shettima has disclosed at the NBA conference last week while speaking on behalf of his principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he would be in charge of the National Security and will lead the battle from the front against the terrorists in Nigeria.

He cited his experience as governor of Borno state and how he was overwhelmed by the insurgency ravaging the state. He noted that he was able to manage the situation and came out successfully.

If elected, Shettima promised to replicate the achievement in the area of security across the country while Tinubu will replicate his economic and developmental achievement in Lagos while he was a governor. Shettima sounded it clear that he will be in charge of security if they are elected in 2023.

While reacting to the statement during an interactive section with Journalists in his sitting room, governor Ifeanyi Okowa explained that he does not really understand what Shettima actually meant by saying he would be in charge of security.

According to Okowa, it is the constitutional responsibility of a president to provide security of lives and properties for the citizens. The president is in charge of security and not the vice president. The vice president can only give advices and suggestions when need be.

If he is in charge of security, will he also be the one to give a report at the National Security Council meeting or will there be a reversal of position between the president and his vice? I don’t understand what he means. Okowa stated.
