ASUU Strike: Main Reason FG Called On Nigerian Students To Apply For The UK Scholarship

Nigerian students who are currently sitting at home due to the protracted ASUU Strike have been advised to apply for the UK Scholarship.

The scholarship, which is an initiative of the government of the United Kingdom is expected to mitigate the negative impact of the industrial action on applicants who have succeeded in getting the scholarship.

In a letter written, signed by the Federal Government through the deputy Executive Secretary, Administration of the National University Commission and addressed to all Vice Chancellors of the Nigerian Universities, all University students are  encouraged to take the opportunity provided by the scholarship to move-on academically.

The commission said, “The National Universities Commission is in receipt of the letter from the Ministry of Foreign reign Affairs, Ref. TSW/BRI/V/T and dated 12 August 2022, with the attached Call Letter from the British High Commission Abuja dated 3rd August 2022, on the above subject.

“The British High Commission has announced the call for applications for the Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK, which opened on 2nd August 2022 and closes on 1 November 2022.

“The Chevening Scholarships are fully funded scholarships to individuals from any background, who demonstrate the requisite skills and commitment necessary to bring about positive change.” The letter read in part.

Nigerian students who are victims of the current ASUU Strike are expected to sieze the opportunity as a means of escaping from the academic inactivity that has held the nation by the jugular.

ASUU and the federal government has been at loggerheads since February 2022 and every attempt by stakeholders to resolve the crisis has remained futile.

The academic union has since declared an indefinite strike, saying they will wait for the next administration for negotiation.
