ADC Chairman Gives 3 Reasons For Expelling Presidential Candidate

The expulsion of Dimebi Kachikwu, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress has become a major public discussion since the announcement was made on Saturday.

Many political observers have continued to wonder why the party had to wait till a few days to the commencement of the electioneering campaign ahead of 2023 general elections before coming up with such a controversial decision against their standard bearer.

Barely a week ago, Mr Kachikwu had announced the suspension of the party chairman while featuring on Channels TV Sunday Politics. He told Seun Okinbaloye that the National chairman of the party, Ralph Okey Nwosu has been at the helm of affairs in the last 17 years.

He revealed that Nwosu would be the only National Chairman of a political party in Nigeria to have been in the office for that long. Hence, he does not deserve to be there.

Little did Kachikwu know that he would not hold the flag of the party as presidential candidate during the campaign scheduled to commence on 28th of September.

Less than a week to the statement which was made on the National TV, the embattled presidential candidate received the news of his suspension from the party.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the National Chairman of the party, in Abuja, Mr. Kachikwu was accused of three major offences which informed the party’s decision to axe him from its fold.

He was accused of involvement in anti-party activities, gross misconduct and violation of party’s constitution.

Joining him in the suspension spree are seven other members of the party who are perceived to be loyal to him. They are Kingsley Oggah, Bello Isiyaka, Kabiru Hussain, Kennedy Odion, Musa Hassan, Clement Ehiator and Alaka Godwin Williams.

The statement reads in part: “The seven-man Disciplinary Panel set up by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to look into the allegations of gross misconduct, antiparty activities and gross violations of the Party’s constitution amongst others leveled against Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu and others, sat on the 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th and 14th of September respectively and submitted its report formally to the leadership of the party on the 15th of September 2022.

“The panel found Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu and others guilty of the allegations leveled against them, subsequently and in accordance with article 15 of the party’s constitution, it was recommended that Mr.Dumebi Kachikwu and others be expelled from the party.

“The NWC met on the 16th of September 2022 to deliberate on the report and accepted the report of the Panel with modification.”
