After years of going back and forth over the case of Chuckwudumeme Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans, A Special Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja Lagos has now sentenced him to 21 years jail term on Monday.
He was not however alone in his journey to jail. Victor Aduba, a former soldier who was his accomplice was also sent to jail with him for the same number of years.
According to Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, both Evans and Victor are guilty of kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms. Justice Taiwo said the offence is a criminal offence against the law of Lagos State.
Before now, both Evans and Victor were arraigned on a four-count charge for the crime they were convicted of, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.
The duo were accused of kidnapping a businessman named Sylvanus Ahamonou and collected a sum of 420,000 dollars from his family.
According to Justice Taiwo, it was established by the victim that he was kidnapped. She however asked that who kidnapped him?
She said the victim testified that he was blindfolded before he was taken to the bus. And immediately he saw him (Evans), he recognized him as someone who kidnapped him.
