List Of Serving & Ex-Governors In Wike’s Camp That Pulled Out Of Atiku’s Campaign Council Over Ayu’s Saga

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has loudly dropped the bomb that may shatter the presidential ambition of former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubabakar with the pronouncement made from Rivers state on Wednesday.

Following the meeting held in Port Harcourt between the two camps, Wike’s group has declared that it will not be part of Atiku’s campaign council except the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu leaves the office.

Wike and his team members were named last week as members of Campaign Council of the former vice president.

However, while  attending a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde at the government house in Oyo State last week, Makinde was said to have proposed to Atiku to remove Iyorchia Ayu who is the Chairman of the party as an antidote to the grievances nursed by Governor Wike and his team members.

While responding to the proposal, Atiku told Makinde that he could not singlehandedly remove Ayu while adding that his removal must follow the party’s constitutional provisions.

After the meeting held between both camps in Port Harcourt on Wednesday morning, Wike’s camp announced its formal withdrawal from the campaign council until Ayu bows out from office.

What this however means is that both the serving and former governors in Wike’s camp will not be part of Atiku’s Campaign Council and may likely work against him in the 2023 presidential election if nothing happens before then.

Aside Wike, other serving Governors in this category are Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State while the former governors in Wike’s camp include former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former Cross Rivers State governor, Donald Duke and former Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dakwambo.

Will their withdrawals from the campaign council in any way affect the chance of PDP in 2023? It is only Nigerians that can give answer to the question at the poll.
