Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has continued to maintain his stance about the argument trailing his appointment as Youths Coordinator of the Tinubu Shettima’s Campaign Council.
The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, announced the appointment of the governor on Sunday as National coordinator of the Youths wing of APC presidential campaign council.
Many are however of the opinion that the governor, who is 47 years of age is no longer within the age bracket of people that should be tagged a youth or in a position to lead the group.
The controversy was brought up during a special Interview session with the governor on Wednesday’s edition of Arise TV Morning Show anchored by Reuben Abati and Rufai Oseni.
During the question and answer session, Governor Bello was reminded about the update from the National Youth Commission that put the age bracket of Nigerian youths between 15 and 29 and the governor does not fall with that bracket. How come he is then seeing himself as a youth at 47? He was asked if he is not too old for the position he is occupying.
Responding to the question, Governor Bello said the presidential candidate of his party, Bola Tinubu made the right choice to have appointed him the Youths Coordinator.
He argued that he is the only governor who has a very good rapport with the Youths. Having been elected into the office at the age of fourty years, governor Bello noted that he has what it takes to relate with the youths and speak the language they understand.
According to the governor, most of the people that dominate the Kogi State government today are Youths. And this happens because he believes so much in them. He said his programmes are targeted towards them.
He explained that coordinating the affairs of Youths is not about age but about understanding their plight and how to relate with them to achieve a common goal. That is the quality Tinubu noticed that made him (Tinubu) conclude he (Bello) is the right man for the Youths affairs.
