Nobody Is Talking About Party’s Constitution, We Are Talking Of Moral Issue -Bode George Reacts To Atiku’s Statement On Ayu’s Removal
A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George has reacted to the statement made by Atiku Abubakar over the removal of the National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
Atiku in a statement issued on Wednesday about the call for removal of Ayu by Wike’s camp disclosed that neither he nor any individual has the power to remove the embattled PDP chairman.
He said the only body that is empowered to remove him had already passed a vote of confidence in him. Hence, he (Atiku) has no constitutional power to singlehandedly remove Ayu from office.
Atiku made this statement in his official reaction to the withdrawal of Wike’s camp from his campaign council over the continuous stay of Iyorchia Ayu in office.
Reacting to Atiku’s statement while granting Interviews on the Wednesday edition of Channels TV Politics Today, Bode George disclosed that the call for Ayu’s removal is not about party’s constitution but rather, it has to do with moral sanctity.
According to the former Military Administrator of Old Ondo State, Ayu had made it known during his election as chairman that if a Northern person emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, he will be glad to resign.
He said by now, no one would be talking about Ayu’s resignation if he had stood by his own words. He ought to have resigned immediately Atiku emerged as the party’s Flagbearer.
Bode George revealed that if the zoning agreement of the party had been followed, Atiku would not have emerged in the first place. But they decided to follow the constitution at the detriment of the party which produced Atiku as the candidate.
The PDP stalwart therefore expects logic to prevail for the sake of inclusiveness. He insists that Ayu must resign in order for the party to move forward.
