NNPP National Chairman Explains Why The Proposed Alliance Between Peter Obi & Kwakwanso Crumbled

The National Chairman of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Professor Rufai Ahmed Akali has explained the reasons the proposed alliance between the candidate of Labour Party, Dr Peter Obi and that of NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso could not sail through.

Some weeks ago, there were reports which circulated online that the two presidential candidates are planning to merge in order to form a strong force that will wrestle power from the ruling party in 2023.

It was rumoured that the parties were deliberating on who will stand down his presidential ambition between Obi and Kwakwanso and serve as a running mate to the other.

While the people of the South East and supporters of the labour party candidate insisted on nothing but the president, it was reported that Kwakwanso’s camp harped on the fact that the former governor of Kano State was more politically experienced than Peter Obi and cannot step down his presidential ambition.

While clarifying the issue on Arise TV Morning Show on Wednesday, Professor Akali said it was true that an alliance was proposed between the two parties but it crumbled along the line.

According to the veteran politician, Kwankwaso and Peter Obi would have made a very strong force if they had successfully merged as a force ahead of 2023.

But during the process of discussion, the major issue that dominated the discussion was who will be the Flagbearer and who will be the runningmate. People were talking about how to share the position and appointment into offices in an election that had not been conducted let alone won.

He said nobody was talking about ideology or what they are bringing to the table. The discussion was not about how to fix Nigeria that has already been battered by this APC administration. The agitation was more about who gets what after the election and who should step down.

As a result of this, the alliance could not work and the discussion ended there.

Alkali explained this on Wednesday edition of Arise TV Morning Show.
