What Chelsea told Mikel after he announced his retirement

Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has not just announced his retirement from football, he has also recieved messages from far and wide.

The former Chelsea midfielder on Tuesday called it time on an illustrious 20 year career where he won the UEFA Champions League, the English Premier League and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mikel 249 appearances for Chelsea in his 11 year career at Stamford Bridge, making him a legend.

Chelsea has now sent him a message following his retirement.

“Enjoy your retirement, Mikel. Thanks for the memories,” Chelsea wrote on twitter with a blue heart emorgi.

Some of his former teammates have also joined in wishing him the best in his future endeavour.

@johnterry.26 said: [Blue heart emoji] ‘What a great career my friend, it was a pleasure to play and share the dressing room with you. Love you Georgie Boy [followed by another blue heart emoji and a football one too].’

@garyjcahill followed on: ‘Congratulations on an amazing career mate, pleasure to play alongside you. Enjoy your retirement [followed by three emojis].’

@salomonKalou replied: ‘OGaaaaaaaaaaaa. I dey miss u Baba Thank u for that wonderful journey.’

It wasn’t just loving from his former Blues allies that were present under this message, it was clear that Mikel’s services were also very well appreciated in Staffordshire.
