I’m Pained By The Recurring Disruption In Our Tertiary Education System  – Pres. Buhari

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness in the ongoing inactivitivities in the University Education across the country.

Buhari expressed this sadness while delivering the 62nd Anniversary Speech on Saturday morning.

The president, who has now made his last independence day speech as president of Nigeria, specifically harped on the reasons ASUU should call off the ongoing strike and allow the students return to their classes.

It has been over 200 days the union has embarked on strike with every move by stakeholders to nip the problem in the bud ending in futility.

While addressing the nation over the incident, Buhari said he is very pained with the constant disruption to the tertiary education system in the country.

He noted that his administration has made appreciable progress in adressing these issues that have been lingering for over eleven years. He also disclosed that he has made available substantial resources out of meagre resources available to take care of lecturers demands so as for them to return to classrooms.

The president said: “I want to use this Independence Day celebration to re-iterate my call for the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classroom while assuring them to deal with their contending issues within the limits of the scarce resources available.”
