“Portable” Arrested For Impersonation In Ekiti

An attempt to appear as a celebrity has gone wrong for Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, a Disc Jockey, who has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly impersonating popular street-pop entertainer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

Timothy was apprehended by EFCC operatives from the Ilorin Zonal Command on Thursday, September 29, 2022, according to the anti-graft agency. The DJ, a native of Igede-Ekiti in Ekiti State’s Ifelodun local government area, was accused of creating an Instagram account called “Zazu Omolalomi Portable” in an attempt to impersonate the popular musicians and deceive the people of Ekiti state.

According to investigations, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwajuaren, revealed that Timothy introduced himself as Portable to an unsuspecting victim, Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, who managed a club in Offa, Kwara state. The DJ met Lukman through social media and agreed to perform at the club for N1 million naira.

The suspect demanded that 80% of the money be paid before the event, and Lukman succumbed by depositing N790,000 (Seven Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira) into the suspect’s bank account number.

“However, the self-styled artiste, “Portable,” did not appear at the event, which was held on February 18, 2022, and eventually blocked all means of communication with the suspect,” according to the EFCC.

He later went into hiding for a long spell before he was eventually caught by the EFCC.

The anti crime commission noted that the suspects will be charged to court soon as the investigations are completed.
