By Orji Onyekwere

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has praised the courage of president Bola Tinubu in removing the controversial fuel which has drained the country’s economy for many years.

The Governor spoke during activities marking the 63 years of Nigeria’s independence and 27 years anniversary of the creation of Ebonyi State, which came to a climax on Sunday October 1, 2023 amidst pomp and pageantry.

He also announced that the State has procured about 100-seater CNG buses for transporting workers FREE OF CHARGE in the State to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

Workers to enjoy the free ride include those of the Airport, Ebonyi State University Campuses, FUNAI, Centenary City, and College of Education Ikwo, among others. This is to alleviate the transportation plights of Ebonyi workers, in the wake of glaring economy hardship.

The grand finale of the independence ceremony which held at the premises of the Office of the Governor, Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki attracted the presence of dignitaries including former Governors Sam Egwu, Martin Elechi and their wives as well as former and serving National Assembly members from the State among others.

The event culminated in an interdenominational Church Service officiated by the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, Right Reverend Dr Michael Nnachi Okoro at the Government House Chapel, Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.

Cutting of anniversary cake, flag off of distribution of palliatives, cultural dance among others were some of the highlights of the colourful ceremony.
In his speech, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru showered praises on President Bola Tinubu on fuel Subsidy Removal, as he noted that President Tinubu is the first man to pay the price.
