China to help Buhari fight Boko Haram, bandits in Nigeria

The Chinese Ambassador in Nigeria, Cui Jianchum said that the Chinese government has approved sending criminal investigation experts to help the Buhari-led administration tackle bandits and Boko haram in the country.

Mr. Jianchun announced this on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with journalists on the sideline of the October 1, China-Nigeria friendship award to students of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

“China’s central government is really concerned about the security situation in Nigeria and also the Chinese nationals in Nigeria. We are working hard on how we can get support from China,” added Mr. Jianchun. “I think that it really concerns every Nigerian, and I believe this is not only about the Nigerian people and government, but also, we need international support.”

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Kabiru Bala was grateful to the Chinese government for supporting Nigeria resolve security issues and he also said that the Nigerian Government to a large extent have secured the university campus.

“Let me sincerely appreciate the efforts of the government. When we began to see signs of insecurity around the campus, we made a special visit to the inspector general of police,” explained the vice-chancellor. “To other government agencies, security agencies, and I am happy to say that the response was quite appreciated. There are things that I might not mention publicly, but just to say, the response was very good.”

Mr. Bala during the occasion told the Chinese government that the Inspector general has put a lot of effort to secure the campus by reinforcing the campus around with equipment and men.

He noted that the October 1 award to the university student is a nice gesture from the Chinese government through its embassy in Nigeria was a great encouragement to the students.

As part of the event, the Chinese embassy awarded 50 students N5 million to commemorate 50 years of China-Nigeria bilateral relations.
