Again, Gunmen Kidnap Lawmaker, Others At Anambra Security Checkpoint

Another former member in Anambra State House of Assembly, Barr Sylvester Okeke, has been allegedly kidnapped by gunmen.

Okeke, who represented Anaocha State Constituency 1, between June 2007 to June 2011, was kidnapped at a security check-point along Awka/Nibo road by ring road, Nkwelle village in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.

A viral video showed where Okeke’s car with a registration number, Anambra State Legislator  11A-AN June 2007-June 2011, was abandoned at the security post with another car at its back with registration number, Lagos LSR-409GU.

The two cars were ridden with gunshots even as the voice of narrator in the video blamed the security operatives for the act, because according to them, the check-point was set-up by the security men who seemed to have equally abandoned it, thereby turning the area into a danger zone.

Meanwhile, a family source, who confirmed the abduction of Okeke, said the event happened around 7pm on Thursday, when the former lawmaker was driving home, and that the abductors were yet to establish contact with them.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, was yet to confirm this report despite the text message and WhatsApp message sent to him.

Okeke would be the fifth state former legislator kidnapped after Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, and Hon. Nelson Achukwu were kidnapped and killed respectively, while Hon. Benson Nwawulu was later freed by his abductors.
