A truck driving from Offa, Kwara State to Osun State on Friday killed three people in Ikirun, around Emiloju Area, Ikirun.
The truck driver allegedly lost control and hit two persons on a motorcycle and a passerby, an action that sparked a protest.
The truck driver was said to have fled immediately after the incident while some displeased residents embarked on protest and attempted to hijack from the police some of the occupants of the truck who were initially rescued from the scene.
When the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Paul Okpe, was contacted, he confirmed the accident, stating that the truck was coming from Offa to Osun.
Okpe said, “Three people lost their lives. Two of them were on a motorcycle and the last one was just walking near the road. We lost lives due to reckless driving. We will keep engaging with the leadership of the truck drivers in the state to ensure safety on the road.”
