Tension In Ondo As NURTW Members Clash Over Motor Park Leadership

There was pandemonium on Tuesday at Ondo Park in Akure, the Ondo State capital following a bloody clash that ensued among members of National Road Union Transport Workers over leadership of the park.

Trouble started when the Chairman of the Union at the park, Comrade Kole Adewale arrived and was challenged by his deputy, Benson James who questioned his presence at the park.

The situation led to a serious melee among drivers at the park and comrade Adewale was hit on the head with a big stone by his deputy, leading to a gush of blood.

It was gathered that the deputy had planned to upstage Hon. Adewale immediately Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was sworn-in as the Governor of Ondo State.

What it started as a brickering snowballed into a serious fight which disrupted activities at the park, the chairman became a victim and now receiving treatment at an undisclosed private hospital.

An eyewitness account said the deputy, James who is over ambitious has the backing of the caretaker chairman of the state NURTW, Ademola Odudu who is allegedly inciting crisis in the Union.

The Chairman of the park, Kole Adewale in a telephone chat said he could not say anything as he is still nursing injuries.

Efforts to speak with Comrade Ademola Odudu and James proved abortive as their telephone lines were unreachable

Reports say drivers loyal to Comrade Adewale are planning reprisal attacks which could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state capital.

Stakeholders have now appealed to the state governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to quickly wade into the crisis before it gets out of hands.
