Has Gov. Makinde Finally Dumped Atiku? Here Is What He Said In Akure That Confirmed His Support For Tinubu
The rumour that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pitched his tent with the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is gradually becoming a reality if the statement he made during the visit of the APC standard bearer in Akure over the weekend, is anything to go by..
Tinubu had visited the retired Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti over his 2023 presidential ambition. During the visit, the former leader of the Yourba Social-Cultural Organization prayed for him and declared the endorsement of Yoruba Nation for his ambition.
While speaking at the venue through his deputy, Bayo Lawal, the Oyo state governor, said although they belong to different political parties, he is in support of the decision of the Afenifere and Yoruba races.
Bayo Lawal who read out Seyi Makinde’s message said, “Since he became Governor of Oyo State, he never played down the interest of Yoruba land.
“There was no time Baba called him that he didn’t respond. There was no event he is invited to, whether by Afenifere or any group in Yoruba land that Engineer Makinde didn’t play a part.
“Now, we are different by a political party but we are one by the tribe. For this reason, what he asked me to assure you is that in Yoruba land, whatever you have agreed to do, he is in support,” said Lawal.
RovingNaija News had earlier reported that the governor and others who are loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had decided to support Dr. Peter Obi of Labour Party for the 2023 presidential election. The decision which was reportedly reached during their last meeting in the United Kingdom, was revealed to newsmen by a source close to the aggrieved governors.
The recent development in Akure has however remained a major political debate in the public.
