The twenty children abducted by bandits at Kusherki in Rafi Local Government Council of Niger state about twenty one days ago are still in captivity.
A native of the area Alh. Auwal Usman told Radio Nigeria in a telephone interview in Minna that the bandits were demanding for forty million naira as ransom for their release.
Alh. Usman lamented that the children abducted are from the ages of four to ten years and have been subjected to undue hardship by the bandits.
According to him, out of the number of children abducted, four of them are male while the remaining sixteen are female. He called for concerted efforts by all and sundry to rescue those children unhurt.
Usman appealed to Niger state government and security agencies to come to their aid as parents of the innocent children are in serious problem due to the abduction of their wards.
In his reaction, Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs Mr Emmanuel Umar maintained that Niger state government was not resting on its oars to rid the state of all forms of crime and criminality.
Mr Emmanuel Umar maintained that the state government was working assiduously in conjunction with conventional and non conventional forces to rescue those in captivity throughout the state alive and unhurt.
He however added that though they are coming across some casualties in the process, in all they are really winning the war against banditry and applauded security agencies and vigilante for their gallantry
