Jega And Baba-Ahmed Endorse PRP’s Kola Abiola.
A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, and spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, have thrown their weights behind the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, Kola Abiola, to win the 2023 presidential election.
In a recent appearance on the popular Channels Television program “Politics Today,” the NEF image maker claimed the forum would subject candidates from different political parties vying for support in the north to a rigorous interrogation process until they were convinced of their ability to fix the country.
He claims that the northern elders made a major error in 2015 when they ordered the populace to give President Muhammadu Buhari, their bloc of votes without first asking for his plan.
Additionally, the development occurs just five days after Kola, MKO Abiola’s acclaimed successor, made a commitment to Nigerians that he would not carry the baggage of previous governments and recycled politicians into power.
When he participated in the Arise TV presidential debate at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, the 60-year-old business magnate gave the promise.
Kola asserted that by defeating the oddsmakers in the 2023 presidential election on the PRP platform, he would prove the bookmakers wrong. Kola described himself as a breath of fresh air with no prior experience holding public offices in Nigeria.
Jega endorsed his candidacy on Saturday and made fun of people who predicted a three-horse battle for the presidency in 2023.
Without a doubt, people will say all kinds of things, many of which are plainly absurd, he remarked. You don’t know who eats the most until the soup is gone, goes the proverb in my culture.
“I can assure you that Kola Abiola is a very capable and determined candidate. He has a lot of intellectual capacity and is pretty energetic. He stands taller than any of the people running for office in my opinion because of his expertise.
The former INEC boss stated that the PRP is more than capable of producing the next group of leaders who could revive the nation while also admitting that he is a proud member of the party.
“We have faith in the PRP, a party with a well-defined philosophy. It is a party that values its supporters and has candidates qualified for political posts who are devoted, selfless, and competent. That is what Nigeria needs right now to make significant changes, he remarked.
In a similar vein, Baba-Ahmed urged support for the late business magnate’s son, asserting that he has the skills and expertise necessary to lead the PRP into the Presidential Villa in 2023.
