Atiku Didn’t Go To Rivers Because He Believes Democracy Is About Protecting The People- Daniel Bwala

The decision of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar to avoid campaigning in Rivers State has been justified on the basis of security threat to the people.

The clarification was made by Daniel Bwala, spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign council.

While featuring on the Wednesday edition of Arise News Morning Show, Bwala revealed that Atiku actually planned to go to Rivers for campaign but because of the people’s lives that are involved, he decided to shelve the plan.

According to him, “Atiku Believes that Democracy is About Protecting the Lives of Rivers’ people.

“If he really wanted to go, he would have gone with heavy security and made it a fire for fire affair but due to innocent lives that will be wasted, he decided to cancel the rally,” he said.

Atiku and governor Nyesom Wike have been at loggerheads since the conclusion of the PDP presidential primary that produced the former vice president as standard bearer.

Wike had insisted that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu should resign and allow a candidate of southern extraction to take over for the purpose of inclusion and balancing.

He called on Atiku to prevail on the chairman to step down or he (Wike) will not support his (Atiku’s) presidential bid.

The failure of Atiku to force Ayu to resign has been the basis of the lingering face off between the two leaders.

Atiku had fixed his campaign rally for Port Harcourt on Tuesday but due to the security threat which was said to have been occasioned by the crisis between him and the state governor, the rally was canceled.

Daniel Bwala however assured PDP supporters that Atiku will still visit the state before the elections.
