FIRST DAY IN OFFICE: Adeleke sacks three monarchs, suspends OSIEC chairman

Governor of Osun State Ademola Adeleke has sacked three monarchs and suspended the the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Segun Oladitan.

These were among the decisions taken by the newly-sworn-in governor on his first day in office on Monday.

Adeleke, who took oath of office yesterday, replaced former governor Gboyega Oyetola following his victory in the July governorship election.

On Monday, Adeleke directed security agents to take over the palaces of Owa of Igbajo, Aree of Iree and Akinrun of Ikirun.

Spokesperson for Osun governor, Olawale Rasheed, in a statement obtained in Osogbo, explaining the contents of the six orders signed by Adeleke, also stated that all appointments of traditional rulers made by the immediate past administration after July 17, 2022, would be reviewed.

The statement also said the governor had reversed all appointments in the service of Osun State Government made in into any capacity in all the ministries, departments, agencies, commissions, boards and parastatals after July 17.

In another statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tesleem Igbalaye, on Monday, Adeleke suspended the OSIEC chairman and six members of the Commission with immediate effect.

The suspension was said to have been based on several petitions bordering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism and abuse of office against the said Chairman and members of the Commission.

The statement further read in part, “The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Adeleke, has directed the immediate suspension of the Chairman of OSIEC, Segun Oladitan, and the following members of the Commission;

I. Mr. Yusuf Oyeniran
II. Alhaja Suibat Adubi
III. Prince Yinka Ajiboye
IV. Mrs. Abosede Omibeku
V. Mr. Dosu Gidigbi
VI. Mr. Wahab Adewoyin

“This suspension is sequel to several petitions bothering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism and abuse of office against the said Chairman and members of the Commission.
