Belgium’s Captain, Eden Hazard Retires From International Football After Elimination From Group Stage At FIFA World Cup

Belgium’s captain, Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from International Football. The former Chelsea player made the announcement on Wednesday.

The announcement is coming less than a week after his country failed to qualify for the round of 16 of the current FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

After 126 caps and 33 goals, Hazard announced his retirement from international football at age 31.

In a post via his Instagram account, Hazard said, “Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness shared since 2008.”

The Real Madrid star added, “I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I’ll miss you.”

Hazard was part of the Belgium’s squad that got eliminated from the group stage at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. 

Being the second rated team in the world according to FIFA ranking, Belgium were considered as the tournament favourite by many football pundits who were later shocked by their early exit from the competition.
