Thousands of Lagosians stranded, trek as public transport operators begin strike

Most residents of Lagos were left stranded on Monday morning following the commencement of a 7-day strike by public transport operators.

Getting to work, school and business places was a huriccan task for many as they were seen by RovingNaija stranded at bus stops.

Earlier, the transporters, under the aegis of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) announced that they will suspend all activities today.

The National Leader of JDWAN, Akintade Abiodun said the reason for embarking on the strike is the continuous extortion going on in their parks.

He also cited the failure of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola and the Motor Park Management Liaison Officer, Hakeem Odumosu (AIG rtd) to give a tangible solution as a major factor for the commencement of the strike.

In places where okdad still operates, it was discovered that the riders have tripled their fare, making the few passengers pay through their noses.

RovingNaija can also report that the fuel scarcity currently being experienced in the commercial city, has caused further pain to residents.

As of press time, there is no official statement from the Ministry of Transportation on the development.
