Gov. Makinde’s Convoy Driver Dies In Fatal Accident

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has lost one of his convoy drivers in a ghastly accident which occured on Tuesday.

Aside the driver who died at the scene, it was gathered that three other occupants of the car were injured in the accident that occurred when Governor Makinde was returning to Ibadan, the state capital from Saki.

Governor Makinde had travelled to Saki for a town hall meeting with members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It was reported that the driver identified as Ramon Mustapha lost his life on the spot after he lost control of his vehicle.

A source that spoke with The Nation on the incident said the driver could have survived the crash if he used his seat belt.

Another source who was part of the convoy and spoke on condition of anonymity said Mustapha smashed his head in the unfortunate accident.

It was gathered that the vehicle, which the driver was driving identified as “Zebra 4” somersaulted throwing off some bags of rice bought by some individuals on the trip.

The remains of the driver have been buried at his Amuloko, Ibadan residence on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.

At the time of filing this report, the state government is yet to release a statement on the incident.
