World Cup: Morocco makes history, becomes first African country to reach semi final
History has been made as Morocco qualified for the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup after beating Portugal 1-0 in a thrilling quarter final encounter on Saturday.
A 42nd minute goal by En-Nesyri saw Morocco break the record of becoming the first African country to ever reach the World Cup semi-final.
Before now, three African countries – Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana – have reached the World Cup quarter final, but none could crack the ice any further until Morocco did today.
Cristano Ronaldo came in from the bench but was unable to inspire his side back to level terms as Youssef En-Nesyri’s 42 minute opener settled the side.
Ronaldo returns home, without a club having left United while on international duty in Qatar, having made history in the Middle East.
He scored in Portugal’s opening game, from the penalty spot, to record goals in a record-breaking FIVE World Cups.
