Lagos Urges Community Media To Embrace Professionalism

As part of conscious efforts to ensure that professionalism is effective and evident in the media, the Lagos State Government has called on the Practitioners of Community Media in the State, to embrace professionalism in covering its events and disseminating information about its programmes and policies across all the communities in the State.

This call was made on Friday at an Interactive Session held for Community Media Practitioners in the State organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Alausa, Ikeja, where the Special Adviser on Community Affairs, Babatunde Adewale Jimoh identified the key role of the Community Media Practitioners in disseminating information about the State Government to residents in the communities, as a necessity for the practitioners to hone their professional skills in news reporting to the grassroots.

In his words, he said, “Nigeria as a Nation on a daily basis deals with fake news. We now have so many media ready to spread false information about Government, thereby provoking violence in the State” he said.Jimoh stated that the community media practitioners should take up their role as agent of truth to clear many misrepresentation of government, and enhance coverage of its achievements at the State and Local levels across all communities.

Earlier, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Kehinde Adebayo said that the essence of the interactive session was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s developmental agenda to bring governance closer to the people at the grassroots.

The Chairman, of Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, Alhaji Azeez Amusat told the practitioners that the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs had a very wide mandate, and that the presence of the press is an opportunity for them to be able to do their job efficiently.

While responding in the course of the event on behalf of participants, Mr. Abayomi Adejumo gave reasons for the gap and called for more support of the State Government to equip his men as part of the four estate of the realm.Tags:
