It Would Be Difficult For Nigeria To Produce Good Leaders In 2023- Afe Babalola

The founder of Afe Babalola University and legal luminary, Are Afe Babalola has revealed why it would be a difficult task to produce good leaders in next election irrespective of who Nigerians may vote for.

The legal icon stated this in Ado Ekiti while speaking to newsmen on the need for Federal Government to set up a committee for immediate payment of a substantial part of the external debt owed by the country.

He noted that the proposed committee will seek the assistance of billionaires, trillionaires and other patriotic Nigerians that would donate to offset the debt.

According to him, the suggestion is necessary to guide Nigeria from becoming bankrupt, saying the country’s external debt as of June 2022 had reached N42.84 trillion which he said was alarming.

He disclosed that the Federal Government should also toe the path of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, by approaching the creditors either for total forgiveness of the debt or substantial reduction.

Aare Babalola said that the committee should be comprised of people of impeccable character like Pastor Enoch Adeboye, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Bishop Mathew Kukah, promising that he would make his contribution to ensure that the debts are paid.

On the forthcoming elections, Aare Babalola noted that it would be difficult for Nigeria to produce good leaders with the 1999 Constitution, saying it should be reviewed.

The legal icon who is the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti explained that any election conducted with the present constitution would be a recycling of those who led the country to where it is today.

Babalola said that the country needed a constitution that would respect age, academic qualification, character, contributions to community development as well as family background of the candidates for the Presidency and National Assembly.

He lamented over the myriad of problems facing the country saying there should be a proactive measure to end the menaces in the interest of Nigerians.
