PDP Crisis: Samuel Ortom Speaks On Endorsement Of Atiku By The G-5 Governors
The crack at the leadership level of the opposition People’s Democratic Party does not seem to be closing up anytime from now going by the recent statement made by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom.
Just as many Nigerians are speculating that the aggrieved governors have reached a turning point and are ready to throw their weight behind the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 general elections, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom came out to debunk the rumour.
According to the unconfirmed report which went viral on some social media platforms, it was gathered that the G-5 Governors have reconciled with Atiku and agreed to support his candidature ahead of February 25th.
Dismissing the report, Ortom said it is fake and should be disregarded.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Terver Akase, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the report is false and mischievous as it is targeted at embarrassing the five Governors who have chosen the path of justice, fairness and equity.
It further disclosed that Governor Ortom, at a meeting with the state caucus of the PDP yesterday, maintained that the national leadership of the party had failed to utilize its internal conflict resolution mechanism, which has led to the crisis rocking the party.
The statement partly read: “We read a fictitious online report which claimed that the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and his colleagues in the G-5 have resolved to work for the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to win the 2023 election.
The report is not only false but also mischievous as it is targeted at embarrassing the five Governors who have chosen the path of justice, fairness and equity.”
