Morocco’ Atlas Lions have withdrawn from the 2023 African Nations Championships.
The country’s decision to pull out of the tournament comes a day before the CHAN kicks off in Algeria.
The decision from the Moroccan football governing body is informed by the dispute between the country and the host nation Algeria over the flight route agitations.
Morocco wanted to fly their team directly from Rabat to Constantine, a decision which has strongly been opposed by their North African neighbours.
The two North African nations have not been on good terms since 1994 and recently cancelled direct flights with each other in 2021.
Morocco, who are the defending champions were pitted in Group C alongside Ghana, Madagascar and Sudan.
