Hours To Edo APC Primary, 2 Guber Aspirants Step Down

Lucky Imasuen, and Dr. Ernest Afolabi who were gunning for the ticket of the All Progress Congress (APC) for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State have announced their withdrawal from the race.

The two political gladiators attributed their withdrawal to the zoning of the governorship ticket to the Central senatorial district by the national leadership of the party.

Imasuen, a former deputy governor of Edo state, in the statement, said the party had expressed preference for Edo Central senatorial district.

“I write to you today with a heavy heart to announce my decision to withdraw from the gubernatorial primaries of our great party scheduled for tomorrow, 17th February 2024 in the interest of peace and unity of our great party.

“I have come to the conclusion that since our national working committee (NWC), in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial district, it’s wise to align with the decision of the party.

On his part, Dr. Umakhihe in a statement, said he quit the race to engender peace and unity in our party.

“However, I have taken the decision on behalf of Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe Campaign Organization that, clearly under the present circumstances, this campaign cannot go on”.

“I have stepped down and ready to support any popular choice of our party”.
