Top Politicians Set Political Differences Aside To Honour Ex- Ondo PDP Gov’ship Candidate At Mum’s Burial
Notable political leaders across party lines in Ondo state gathered on Saturday to honour Mr Eyitayo Jegede as he accorded a befitting farewell to his late mother, Mrs Caroline Jegede at St. David cathedral Anglican church, Akure.
Eyitayo Jegede, former Ondo State commissioner for Justice and Attorney general contested two times under the People’s Democratic Party against the incumbent governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu and lost.
In the 2020 election, Jegede did not only contest against Akeredolu, he also squared up against Agboola Ajayi, the anointed candidate of his former boss, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko which he lost to Akeredolu.
Notwithstanding the obvious political differences, Jegede was honoured with the presence of his political opponents at his mum’s burial on Saturday.
His mother, the late Mrs. Caroline Olutola Jegede, was 96 years old when she died.
Most Rev. Simeon Borokini, the Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, while delivering a sermon at the burial service said the passage of the late Nonagenarian was not a tragedy.
He recalled that she lived a wonderful life, taking care of her biological and spiritual children.
She was described as a priceless wife who took care of her dear husband till death did them part.
According to the cleric, her roles in the house of God at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, where her farewell service was held, were immeasurable.
Great personalities from all walks of life stormed the cathedral to pay their last respect to the late Mama Olutola amidst pomp and celebration.
Conspicuously seated on the front role were Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, learned silk, Wole Olanipekun, Oba Olu Falae among others.
Present and past political office holders, traditional rulers and a host of other personalities from across the nation were in attendance.
Appreciating all the guests on behalf of his siblings, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, expressed joy in the presence of everyone for honouring him and his siblings.
Immediately after the funeral service, the remains of mama was lowered into the grave with all her children and grandchildren present at the grave side.
