How OPC Member Pushed Akure Prince To Death During Peacemaking

The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested a man, Rafiu Akinwale, over the death of one Prince Adesoji Adesida.

Akinwale, also known as ‘Slow’, who is said to be a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress, allegedly pushed Adesida while the latter was trying to settle a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend at a funeral held at the International Cultural and Event Centre, in Akure, the state capital on Friday.

It was gathered that the deceased saw Akinwale beating up his (Akinwale) girlfriend whom he accused of collecting a telephone number from another man at the ceremony.

A source, who does not want to be mentioned, said, “As the two lovers were fighting, Prince (deceased) went there to stop Akinwale from beating up a woman but out of anger, Akinwale pushed the deceased and he fell on the ground and lost consciousness.

“He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead. But the man (Akinwale) has been arrested by the police.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced into the incident,” the PPRO said.
