Some yet to be identified gunmen have attacked the Oguta High Court, in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State and bombed the facility.

It was learnt on Monday that the assailants invaded the facility late Sunday night and bombed a section of the building.

A source who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity said the attackers arrived around the court premises at about 11:30 pm on Sunday.

According to the source, the Magistrate’s court registry, Appeal court record office, file room, secretary to the high court judge’s office, office of the high court bailiff, and chamber of the high court judge were burnt down during the attack.

“Magistrate court registry, Appeal court record office, file room, secretary to the high court judge’s office, office of the high court bailiff were burnt while the chamber of high court judge was partly razed. The whole of the block has cracked and no reasonable human being will ever near the facility,” the source reportedly said.

Confirming the incident, the Sole Administrator of the Oguta LGA, Ofili Ijioma, said that the arson had been reported to security agents.

He assured that further investigations would unravel the faces of the attackers.

The latest attack is coming a week after the Chairman of Ejemekwuru Customary Court in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Nnaemeka Ugboma, was murdered by gunmen.

RovingNaija News had earlier reported that the assailants, who operated in motorcycles, reportedly murdered Ugboma while presiding over a court session.

The incident led to the end of the court sitting as lawyers, court staff and litigants fled.

The killing of Ugboma, who hailed from the Nnebukwu community in Oguta LGA, caused panic in the Ejemekwuru community as natives and residents fled their homes.
