Atiku Reacts To INEC Chairman’s Promise To Conduct Credible Gov’ship Election On Saturday

The Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has knocked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mamood Yakubu over his recent promise to deliver a free, fair, credible and transparent governorship Election on Saturday.

The INEC boss has come under heavy criticism over the conduct of the presidential election held on Saturday, February 25 in the country.

Leading opposition parties in the election have contested the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress as winner and president-elect.

They insist that the election was fraught with irregularities and accused INEC of not keeping to its promise of uploading results from the polling units.

The parties have filed a lawsuit to challenge the outcome of the elections in court.

Apparently unsettled with the controversy generated by the conduct of the presidential election, the INEC chairman, while addressing the Residents Electoral Commission in Abuja on Saturday, promised to ensure strict use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the governorship Election on March 11.

He also threatened to punish any staff or ad hoc staff of the commission found guilty of wrongdoing.

Reacting to the statement on Sunday, the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar described the assurance given by the INEC chairman as worthless and unconvincing.

Atiku made this known through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

In the statement, Atiku noted that the INEC Boss had admitted election was flawed but only trying to save face after conducting the “worst elections” Nigeria had ever witnessed since independence.

Shaibu stated, “After promising to upload the results from polling units in real time, he allowed himself to be used, or he used himself in subverting the will of Nigerians. It will shock you to note that seven days since the election ended, the full results have still not been uploaded on INEC’s result viewing portal.” He said.
