Sanwo-Olu’s Aide, Akosile Explains Why Train-BRT Accident Victims Were Treated On The Barefloor In LASUTH

The trending video of victims of Train-BRT accident been treated on the floor of LASUTH Hospital after the accident at PWD, Ikeja area of Lagos on Thursday has continued to generate public outcry.

Rovingnaija reported that not less than six staff of the Lagos State government were confirmed dead after their fully loaded staff bus was crushed by a moving train.

Several others who suffered varied degree of injuries were also rushed to the hospital.

However, Nigerians were baffled after seeing a viral video of the victims being attended to by medical personnel on a bare floor at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

Reacting to the video, Mr. Kayode Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said attending to the victims in that way is the standard practices across the world.

According to the Governor’s Media Aide who described the process as TRIAGE, he said no one is treated on the floor but what happened was a way of assessing the casualties in order to determine the urgency of their treatment.

Akosile made this known on his Twitter handle. He wrote:

“Our attention has been drawn to a video making the rounds about the treatment of the patients who were involved in the early morning accident at LASUTH. For the avoidance doubt, no one is treated on the floor. What you see is called TRIAGE! It’s a global standard practice in the hospital during an emergency of this magnitude.

“A Triage is the preliminary assessment of patients or casualties in order to determine the urgency of their need for treatment and the nature of treatment required. @HenshawKate @lindaikeji and others should take note. Thank you,” he wrote.
