How Festus Okoye Responded When Asked If INEC Will Apologize To Nigerians Over Presidential Poll

The National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Festus Okoye has stated the position of the commission over what transpired in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly Elections.

RovingNaija recalls that many Nigerians are terribly disappointed with the manner the INEC handled the presidential election which consequently led to a nationwide outrage against the chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Many Nigerians are currently calling on the chairman to step down having falling short of his promise to transmit polling units results on the INEC Results Viewing portal immediately the votes were collated at the polling units.

Asked if the electoral body will apologize to Nigerians who are disappointed with the way the presidential election result panned out, Festus Okoye said the Commission is currently not talking about that now.

The former INEC Director of Information and Voters Education said there are many components that make up the INEC. And those components are the ones to decide on that. 

Okoye, who appeared on Channels TV Sunday Politics revealed that what is paramount to the commission at the moment is how the governorship and House of Assembly elections will be conducted successfully.

He also blamed politicians for not creating a conducive environment to make the election credible as planned.

Okoye, who agreed that there were some skemishes in the last election stated that INEC is doing everything possible to ensure the mistakes experienced in the last poll do not repeat in next elections.
