LP Guber Candidate In Lagos Speaks On Oro Festival Scheduled For Election Day In Eti-Osa 

The Governorship candidate of the Labour party in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has reacted to the trending news of Oro festival allegedly scheduled to take place from Wednesday to Saturday at the Ikate Elegushi, Lagos Island area of the State.

The development has been a major source of controversy on social media since it was made public on Wednesday.

The annual traditional rite is expected to kick off on Wednesday and end by Saturday morning. It will run regularly from 12am to 5am for the three days.

However, the inclusion of Saturday to the duration had been a major source of concern to many Lagosians who believe the idea will affect people who want to vote on Saturday. They accused the monarch of deliberately trying to disenfranchise the non indegenes in the area.

Although the Elegushi of Ikate Land, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has clarified that the festival does not have anything to do with the election, saying it will end by 5:3am while voting begins by 8am, many Lagosians have however disagreed with him for deciding to choose the election day.

Reacting to the news, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour said Lagosians have nothing to fear over the festival.

In a short video footage posted on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, he said:

“Oro festival WON’T affect Saturday Elections, our esteemed Oba Elegushi has clarified, we thank him for this. 

Lagosians you have NOTHING to fear, come out and VOTE ! 

“It takes place from 12-5.30 AM. Voting begins by 8am. 

“You can do it, We can do it”
