Nollywood Actress, Toyin Abraham Reacts To News Of Oro Festival Fixed On Election Day By Oba Elegushi
The news of Oro festival scheduled to begin from Wednesday to Saturday has been eliciting mixed reactions from residents of Lagos.
Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate Land had reportedly fixed the some days to observe the yearly ritual in his domains.
Why many people do not have issues with the festival, the days it is scheduled to be observed have been the major bone of contention among the residents of the state.
The festival according to the report is expected to take place from 12 midnight to 5am and it will commence proper by Wednesday and run into Saturday morning.
Some Lagosians, especially residents of the area, have been slamming the monarch for cleverly trying to disenfranchise the non indigenes residing in the area from voting on Saturday.
They questioned the rationale behind fixing such a traditional rites to run into election day.
The monarch has however set the record straight saying it has nothing to do with the governorship election slated for Saturday.
Reacting to the development on her twitter handle, the renowned Nollywood Actress, Toyin Abraham said Oba Elegushi is very accommodating and the festival will not interfere with the election in any way.
She wrote: “For almost 8 years now, Ikate has been my home. Not only is Ikate known to be one of the most peaceful places on the Island, Kabiyesi Saheed is very accommodating and Ikate people are very nice and friendly as well.
“The Oro festival is not a new doctrine.
“They do this every year and it won’t in anyway affect the election.
“And oro ends by 5am on Saturday morning, in time before the election, so there is no interference with the election or people coming to vote at 8/9am”
