Former Enugu Gov, Nnamani Quits PDP Less Than 24 Hours After Losing Election
Former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani has renounced his membership of the People’s Democratic Party.
Nnamani’s announcement was coming less than 24 hours after he lost his Senatorial bid to retain his seat as Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District at the upper Chamber.
The senator lost to the candidate of the Labour Party, Kevin Chukwu who polled 69,136 votes to defeat him after scoring 48,701 votes.
The Senatorial election for the Constituency was held on Saturday alongside the state governorship and House of Assembly elections. It was initially shifted from Saturday February 25 to last Saturday following the death of Labour Party Senatorial candidate in the area, Oyinbo Chuckwu.
Less than 24 hours after the announcement of the result, Senator Nnamani announced his withdrawal from the PDP.
According to the statement he issued on Monday, the former governor cited irreconcilable differences between him and leaders of the party as his reason for leaving the party.
Some weeks ago, it was reported that Nnamani had been suspended from the party for Anti-Party activities. He was alleged to have supported the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu against that of his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Some PDP members were not however surprised with his latest resignation from the party.
