Catholic Priest, Revered Father Alia Wins Governorship Election In Benue

The question of who will be the next first lady in Benue State has been the dominant discussion on social media since the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia was declared winner of the state Governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Cathlic priest polled 473,933 votes to defeat his closest rival from the People’s Democratic Party, Titus Uba who scored 223, 913 in the election conducted on Saturday March 18.

Having failed to produce a successor from his party, the state governor, Samuel Ortom will now be handing over to the Reverend Father in May 29 when his tenure will be coming to an end.

According to the result declared by the Returning Officer, Professor Faruq Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, the APC candidate won 14 out of the total 20 local government in the state. While the PDP candidate won five, the remaining one was grabbed by the candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party.

However, the emergence of Reverend Father Hyacinth has been a topic of discussion as Netizens asked who will be the next first lady in the state as Cathlic doctrine does not permit its priest to get married.
