Governance Should Be About Protecting, Not Shedding Blood Of Those Meant To Be Served – Rhodes-Vivour
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has visited the victims of electoral violence where they are admitted at their various hospitals in Lagos.
Rhodes-Vivour, who came second with over three hundred thousand votes in the last Saturday governorship and Houses of Assembly elections has condemned the electoral process and vowed to challenge the outcome in court.
The election especially in Lagos was marred with statewide violence, voters intimidation and suppression. Many non- Yoruba voters were reportedly disenfranchised and those who insisted on voting for the candidate of their choice ended up with bloody noses and mouth while those who were not lucky to escape died in the process.
Reacting to the development, the Labour Party candidate made a statement on his verified twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon with pictures of his visit to the victims in their hospital bed.
He wrote: “Elections are not war.
Governance should be about protecting not shedding the blood of those you are meant to serve.
“I’ve spent the last days reaching out, attending to & making sure those hurt by the violence unleashed by the ruling party got treatment.
“It’s also been process of tragedy, we have been reaching out to the families of those who lost their lives for simply wanting to exercise their civic duty by voting on Saturday, while the ruling party deemed it fit to unleash violence on their own constituents
“I have not abandoned Lagosians, please if you were assaulted during the 2023 elections please fill this incident form along with your proof be it pictures or videos.
“We are most importantly providing financial assistance to those injured.”
