Nigeria Is More Divided Than It Has Ever Been After The 2023 Election- Ex-President Obasanjo

Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed his disatisfaction on what the Nation has become since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections.

Obasanjo revealed that the country is more divided than it has ever been since the 2023 election was concluded.

He said: “Nigeria is more divided than it has ever been after the 2023 election”

The former head of state made the statement while giving his remarks on Thursday at the Yaradua Centre in Abuja during a book launch presentation entitled: “The Unending Quest For Reform, An Intellectual Memoir authored by Dr. Tunji Olopa.

Obasanjo condemned in totality the religious bigotry adopted by politicians to win election in the just concluded presidential, governorship and states Houses of Assembly elections.

According to Obasanjo, politicians who knew they could not win elections if conducted under a free, fair and credible atmosphere are the ones who resorted to religious gimmick to divide the people so as to have their way.

The former president advocated national reconciliation in order to enhance the healing needed for national peace and cohesion.

Obasanjo’s comment comes about two days after a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Muhammed Sanusi, said Nigeria is currently more divided than it was during the civil war between July 1967 and January 1970.
