We Didn’t Declare Binani Winner – INEC Starts Another Round Of Confusion As It Says Adamawa Election Continues

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has created another round of confusion in Adamawa State as it denied declaring Aisha Binani winner of the State gubernatorial election.

The commission made this known in a statement on its official Twitter page signed by its National Commissioner, Information & Voter Education, Festus Okoye.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

“The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.

“Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.

“The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.”

Reports have gone viral on some media outlets that the APC governorship candidate, Aisha Binani has been declared winner of the rerun election conducted on Saturday.

The reports follow an exclusive news broadcast by TV Continental that the REC announced the conclusion of the election and declared a winner at 9:00am although the INEC had scheduled a meeting of all stakeholders for 11:00am this morning.

The latest statement from INEC has further put the people of the state and Nigeria in confusion on what actually is going on in Adamawa State on the election.
