The spate of dastardly killings by “Unknown gunmen” in the country appears to have taken a dimension for the worse with the murder, on Tuesday, of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband to the late Minister of Information and Culture, Prof Dora Akunyili.
The late Dr Akunyili was on his way back to Enugu on Tuesday evening after a meeting in Onitsha when gunmen intercepted his vehicle and opened fire on the occupants killing him, his police orderly and driver.
A source disclosed that the deceased was at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA) where he attended a lecture in honour of his late wife Prof Dora Akunyili, some hours before he was mindlessly murdered.
