FG Spends 1.2m Dollars To Evacuate Stranded Nigerians From Sudan To Cairo

Nigerians have questioned the claim by the Federal Government of spending a sum of 1.2 million dollars on the evacuation of stranded Nigerians from the war-ravaged Sudan to the neighboring country of Egypt.

The claim is coming days after the Air Peace Chairman, Allen Oyeama offered to use his flight in evacuating them as part of his contribution in securing the lives of Nigerians in the troubled country.

However, Nigerians are wondering what the federal government would spend such a huge amount of money on after Onyema had already offered to bring them home free of charge.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday on the development in Sudan and the effort of the government in evacuating staranded Nigerians in the country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema said the bus that will be hired will convey them from their location in Sudan to Cairo in Egypt.

From Cairo, the flight will convey them to Nigeria.

Presently, no flight is allowed to land at Sudan airport. Bringing flight to Sudan is as risky as leaving the stranded Nigerians in the country.

His analysis however does not seem to hold any conviction as many Nigerians believe that the amount in question is on the high side considering the fact that a well meaning personality has offered to help.

This has consequently generated reactions on twitter .
